It’s that time of year again – summer is coming to a close, and back to school shopping is in full swing! This unicorn circle purse is not only part of a hot new trend this year (circle purses in general), but it’s also made to look like a unicorn! What a great accessory for the student in your life! It’s an awesome handmade present for back to school time, but moms and adults can enjoy this cute little bag, too!

I noticed that circle purses seem to be very popular right now, and why not? They’re practical but also cute and unique! So when trying to think of a fun, Crafty Kitty Crochet twist on the idea, I of course immediately thought of a unicorn face!

You may have already guessed that I love designing magical creatures. So many of my patterns are based on Mermaids and Unicorns! My Mermaid Hat, Scarf, and Unicorn Plush are just a few that come to mind. I’ve decided to indulge my magical side and make more cute mythical creatures – so if you love crocheting critters like these too, then stay tuned for lots more patterns like this one!

(Pin it for later!)

The purse is made using a unique and easy to work with yarn called Bernat Maker Outdoor. Don’t let the name fool you – this yarn is great for indoor projects too! It has a springy, thick texture but is still soft and cozy to work with. It’s perfect as purse material!

I also went with an old favorite for this pattern – Bernat Baby Coordinates. The flower mane is made using one of my all time favorite colorways, Cotton Candy (find some on Amazon HERE!), and the horn and nose are made using the soft and shiny Baby Pink (find some on Amazon HERE!). The end result is very cute, colorful, and girly!

I also found some odds and ends at my local Jo-Ann’s to top off the purse, including purse rings by Everything Mary, and a gorgeous rainbow strap that was just made for unicorns! You can similar rings on Amazon HERE. And I found some cute straps that are similar to mine on Amazon HERE!

You can also customize your purse and crochet the strap using your Maker Outdoor yarn instead of buying one. I would just recommend using a smaller hook size than the one the pattern calls for so that the stitches are nice and tight, and stretch less over time!

And you could really mix things up and make this into a backpack instead of a purse! Now there’s another one-of-a-kind back to school idea! The possibilities are endless – so don’t be afraid to get creative and add your own touches!

So who’s ready to begin this magical journey into our Unicorn Purse Pattern? I know I am – let’s go!
