How to Make the Double Crochet Stitch – Video Tutorial
Introducing my latest video tutorial – how to make the double crochet stitch! This stitch is taller than the half double crochet or single crochet, which makes it a bit more flexible and loose. It’s a great stitch to use on hats, scarves, blankets, and more!
(Pin it for later!)
This crochet lesson builds upon the steps learned in my Learn to Crochet and Half Double Crochet videos – so if you’re a crocheter who is just starting out, I recommend watching those videos first!
And if you’re a new crocheter, you’ll also want to check out the tools and supplies you’ll need to get started. I recommend using a G, H, or I hook – when it comes to sizing, they are just right and aren’t too small or too large to work with easily. I found a great starter kit that includes these sizes on Amazon HERE!
As for yarn, be sure to use a medium (Aran) weight yarn in a light color. There’s a reason that there are so many “crocheting with black yarn” memes on the internet – it’s because dark yarns can be REALLY hard to see when you’re trying to make stitches! Check out this Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice yarn in Beige – it’s soft, easy to use, and a lovely color to have as a staple in your stash!
I use the double crochet pretty frequently in my patterns! My Light & Airy Cardigan uses the double crochet almost exclusively. And the double crochet can be used to make other, fancier stitches like the crocodile stitch – which is what I use for my mermaid projects (my Mermaid Hat, Mermaid Hat for Kids, and Mermaid Scarf)!
