Hot dogs are a summer favorite and make adorable play food toys, as well! This crochet pattern is quick, easy and fun! What an adorable toy this would make for the kids in your life – or use it as fun decor in your kitchen! Since the pattern uses very little yarn and only a few basic stitches, it’s perfect for experienced crocheters and beginners alike!

Amigurumi Hot Dog

Back in the early days of my Etsy shop, when I sold made-to-order items, one of my favorite things to make was a large play food set that included – you guessed it – a little hot dog! He became such a hit with my customers that I even got a custom order for a jumbo hot dog plush once! Hot dogs are a fun food to begin with, so it makes sense that they’d be cute toys, as well. If you love this pattern, be sure to check out my Amigurumi Cheeseburger, as well! Pair these two together with my Amigurumi S’mores pattern, and you’ve got the perfect Amigurumi Grilling package!

When trying to capture a classic food like a hot dog, yarn colors are important! I used a favorite beige of mine, Red Heart with Love in Tan, for the buns – find it on Amazon HERE! And for the hot dog, I went with a great dark reddish brown shade: Red Heart Super Saver in Ranch Red. That color has been discontinued, but another great hot dog color is Vanna’s Choice in Brick – on Amazon HERE!

Ketchup and Mustard
With Cherry Red or Gold, ch 16. Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

With Strawberry, make small horizontal lines under each eye for Blush. With Black, make a small “v” between eyes for Smile.

Arrange Ketchup and Mustard on sides of Hot Dog in a “squiggle” pattern; use straight pins to hold in place if desired, and sew to Hot Dog.

Place both halves of Buns together and sew at outer edge.

Place Hot Dog inside Buns. Thread needle with Tan and sew through outside of one Bun, through Hot Dog, to outer edge of other Bun. Continue this process back and forth down piece; be careful to not pull too tightly through sts while sewing, to avoid puckering on Buns.

Weave in all ends, or tie off knots and hide inside sts.

Here is the finished Hot Dog!

Quick question! On the smaller bun, round 3 has a 2 dc, 2sc for 18 stitches, but then it says rounds 3-27 sc in each stitch for a total of 24 stitches? Where did the 24 come from? Lol 😅

Hey Stephanie! Sorry, that’s a misprint due to copy/pasting 😛 It should be 18! I updated it! Thanks so much for the heads up! ~ Melissa
