Blooming Flower Tea Cozy – Crochet Pattern
Tea time just got a little fancier! This tea cozy is fun and easy to make. It’s made up of just two very easy blocks of single crochet / single crochet decrease, then sewn together and accented with the flower motif. It’s sure to please anyone who loves drinking tea and wants to dress up their favorite teapot!
Pin it for later!
How did I come up with the idea for a teapot cozy? Well, it just so happens that I have a lovely relative who absolutely loves tea. I wanted to make her something fun and unique for Christmas, and remembered during my brainstorming that she also absolutely adores her Bichon Frise dog. That’s when it hit me – I could make her a tea cozy that looks like her dog! Instant Christmas win!
Coming up with the right measurements for a teapot cozy was difficult. I ended up buying my own teapot to use for measurement, since I was having a tough time finding any clarity regarding standard dimensions online. To help you measure your own tea cozy, I’ve included all the measurements / sizing info in the “Size” section of the pattern below! But I think the end results were definitely positive!
After making the puppy cozy, I decided it might be fun to write down the pattern and publish it here on my blog. But I didn’t want to start off with an amigurumi design right away, so I decided to begin with a basic floral cozy. That’s when I remembered how fun the “blooming tea flowers” that I have seen at some of my favorite Asian restaurants are. This way, your tea can “bloom” anytime!
But don’t worry, I do plan on posting the pattern for the puppy cozy (and probably some other types of amigurumi and floral tea cozies) in the near future!
The yarn I used for the body of the tea cozy here is some lovely hand dyed superwash merino yarn. I bought it from a friend on Etsy years ago, but unfortunately the shop is no longer active. But I can provide a link for the flower yarns! The flower is made using Caron Simply Soft in Burgundy (on Amazon HERE) and the leaves are made with the same brand in the colorway Dark Sage (on Amazon HERE). They are lovely dark jewel tones with a fabulous sheen, and I think they are perfect for this project!
So what are we waiting for? It’s tea time! Let’s get started!
