What I Love about this Book
So you’re thinking of selling your amigurumi designs? Or maybe you just want to know more about the process? This book covers such a wide array of what goes into the design process, from getting inspiration for a design and drafting ideas, to how to carry out the steps of actually writing a pattern, all the way through the testing and publishing processes. If you’re not sure where to start, this book will help you organize your thoughts and turn them into action.
Or maybe you are great at coming up with pattern ideas, love to crochet, have selected a niche – but you’re not sure how to go about writing that first pattern. What should the format be? How does one get their pattern tested? What on earth should one do about stitch counts and various forms of math that belong in a pattern? I was pleasantly surprised that all this and more is addressed in this book.
Ultimately, what I love most about this book is that it’s comprehensive. It covers not only the ins and outs of pattern formatting, tech/math basics for amigurumi, design planning and execution, etc. – it also covers lots of other things one will encounter on the journey to becoming an amigurumi pattern designer. This includes concepts like exploring places where you can sell your patterns, SEO, intellectual property and copyright, quality and types of materials to use, adjusting your own attitude and mindset for success, and more.
Why Do I Recommend this Book?
I recommend this book to anyone who is curious about amigurumi design, planning to start their own pattern designing business, those who want to sell their designs in some other form (i.e. to companies and magazines), those who already design and want to become more polished and organized in their brand, and to anyone who wants to take their amigurumi-making to a professional level for any reason. I wish I had had a go-to guide like this one when I first started crochet blogging! I got a lot out of reading it five years after beginning my design/blogging career, and I learned new facts and techniques that I plan on applying in my own business.
