What has faux fur, a comfy feel, a throwback look, and a ridiculously easy pattern?! The Faux Fur Bucket Hat, of course! This hat works up in about an hour, which makes it a go-to crochet pattern for holiday gift giving, dressing up your winter wardrobe, selling at craft fairs, etc.! And best of all, it’s a 2000s “retro” look that’s become incredibly popular recently! You’ll be getting all the “warm fuzzies” – literally – with this adorable hat!

Faux Fur Bucket Hat

So I recently started noticing that as of this year, bucket hats are EVERYWHERE!! Granny square bucket hats, denim bucket hats, etc. And wow was I happy to see such a prominent trend from my childhood come back into style! Any other 2000s kids out there? Flipping through the pages of catalogues like Limited Too, dELiA*s, and even American Girl, you just couldn’t get away from these bucket hats! They were almost as popular as body glitter and butterfly hair clips. And since I missed my window this past spring and summer to bring you some lighter weight bucket hat patterns (but don’t worry, there’s always 2022!), I thought I’d add a furry twist to the concept of this funky hat by making one in faux fur yarn! You won’t believe how quickly and easily this hat works up – I want to make a whole bunch of them now!

The best faux fur yarn I’ve used to date is without a doubt Lion Brand Go For Faux. I used Poodle Pink because you know I’ve got to make it a pastel if at all possible! Find some on Amazon:

Supplies
Size L-11 / 8 mm crochet hook
About 100 yds of super bulky faux fur yarn – Lion Brand Go For Faux in Pink Poodle (2 skeins) used in photos
Yarn needle with large eye
Scissors

Abbreviations
*= indicates beginning/end of a section to be repeated
BLO = back loop only
FLO = front loop only
Rep = repeat
Rnd(s) = round(s)
Sc = single crochet
St(s) = stitch(es)

Gauge
2 sc and 2 rnds = about 1 inch

Size
Hat measures about 23 inches around; fits a 21-22 inch head circumference (one size fits most for women/teens); hat measures 10 inches long when laying flat

Notes
Faux fur yarn is very textured which sometimes makes it more difficult to see stitches. I suggest “feeling” for stitches as well as brushing away the fur a bit to see the underlying “ribbon” thread to make it easier. (See photo below.)
