Here’s a pattern that you can really sink your teeth into! This Shark Hooded Blanket is so soft, cozy, and designed with a fun, comedic look in mind!

The hood is made to look like the face of a shark, with the opening of the hood looking like the open mouth of a shark just about to enjoy a hearty meal: the person wearing the hood!! Complete with gums, teeth, eyes, and a fin – this blanket is hilariously detailed!

Maybe you’re a fan of popular shark trends right now, such as Shark Week or the Baby Shark song. What better way to celebrate those than with your very own Shark Blanket?!

(Pin it for later!)

When designing this pattern, I knew I wanted an incredibly soft and fluffy yarn that also has a chunky weight. I decided to use Bernat Blanket yarn, and I’m so happy with the results! This yarn is so unique and is just perfect for blankets, in my opinion. It’s soft and works up quickly. I used Dark Grey, which you can find on Amazon HERE!

In addition to the really fun look and design of this blanket, it really does work as a cozy blanket, as well! You can always pop the hood off for a more conventional looking blanket. But then again, if you’re going to wear a shark hooded blanket, I say just go for it and fully embrace the silliness!!!

So who’s ready to dive into this pattern? I know I am! Let’s go!

Hi there! I’m pretty sure I figured out what was wrong, but I just want to make sure! In the instructions above for the blanket, should that say rows 2 – 30, dc in each across? It’s not 3 dc in each?

Haha yes, sorry about that Laura, the “0” in “30” got removed somehow (must be when I was pasting it in since it says “30” in the original pattern on my PC). Thank you so much for asking and for your patience! Enjoy the pattern!!! ~ Melissa

Such a cute pattern! Planning to make this. If I use a smaller hook (8 mm) then would I need to chain more for the 1st row? Thanks!!

Hi Melissa! Thank you so much, glad to hear you like the pattern! If you plan on using a smaller hook, you might want to make some extra chs if you want it to come out 52 inches like the one in the pattern! You could always make extra chs, measure to see if you’re happy with the width, and go from there! Since an 8 mm is almost half the size of the hook size called for in the pattern, you may need to make almost double the amount of chs. Hope that helps! Thanks again! ~ Melissa

I LOVE this pattern! I made two then used it as a template to make a calico cat and flamingo hooded blanket for my nieces at Christmas. It worked up so fast and so easy! I modified length and width for each recipient. I didn’t think about taking pictures when I finished them and I wish I had. They turned out so cute!! Thank you for sharing this with the World!!

hi i’m making the pattern and believe i’ve found some errors. even w/ a 15mm size hook and 2 10.5 oz of bernat blanket the main body only measures to 48″ wide & 30″ tall. i don’t know if it’ll need 3 or 4 for the actual size listed but please fix this mistake.

Hi S, thank you for your feedback! Were you able to make all 30 rnds of the blanket from 2 skeins with some left over for the hood? I can definitely add to the instructions that 2-3 skeins are needed, but from your measurements, it sounds like you might still be close to the size the pattern calls for if you give the blanket a good stretch. As you can see in the photos, my stitches are very relaxed/stretched, and since Bernat Blanket has a lot of give in it, it’s possible the stitches are just a bit on the tight side at the moment. 🙂 The border will also add a few inches on on each side of the width, and the hood adds close to 18 inches to the overall length. Please let me know if that helps and if you have any other questions! Thank you! ~ Melissa

i would definitely amend it to if you have a tighter tension than the very loose one you use that you should have 3-4.
