It’s February, and if you live in the northeastern US like me, it’s just about the coldest time of year! Why not warm up your Valentine this year with a warm, bright, lovely scarf? In fact, how about giving them a scarf handmade by you that’s actually SHAPED like a HEART?! I present to you: the Hearts-a-Flutter scarf!

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at a triangle scarf recently, and that’s when it hit me that making a triangle scarf that looked like a heart would be a super cute Valentine’s Day idea! The only difference between this scarf and a regular triangle scarf is the slight “dip” in the center, which is what defines the heart shape.

When I was designing this scarf, I knew I wanted a variegated yarn with lots of reds and pinks, but nothing so busy that it would overshadow the novelty shape of the scarf. I found this absolutely perfect yarn – Caron Cakes in Cherry Chip – which you can find on Amazon HERE! I mean, it doesn’t get more Valentine’s-ish than this color way! Even the name sounds like a Valentine’s Day candy or something!

And what’s great about it is that one cake will more than make the entire scarf, including tassels. I had a little bit left over when I was all done – probably enough to make a cute matching pair of fingerless gloves!

As with all my patterns, I like to keep the stitching nice and simple. This pattern uses a very basic system of double crocheting, increasing, and decreasing to make the shape of the scarf. Once you get into the rhythm of it, it goes by pretty quickly, too!

It’s time to turn that crochet hook into Cupid’s Arrow and whip up a lovely scarf! Let’s do this!
